Mr. Lawton is the President of HRW, inc., a management and consulting firm based in Raleigh, North Carolina, with additional offices located in North Carolina. HRW manages a portfolio of more than 21,000 homes valued at approximately $3.5 billion.

He has written extensively for the National Association of Housing Cooperatives and the Community Associations Institute. His published credits include papers on strategic and long range planning, as well as maintenance and security.

He was a member of the National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers since its incorporation in 1995 and served as Vice-Chairman for eight years. He has also served on the Board of Governors of the Registered Cooperative Management Program, a professional designation awarded to housing cooperative managers who complete a rigorous training program. He served for many years as the chair of this organization. In addition, he is the past president of the Community Associations Institute of the Carolinas.

Mr. Lawton also served as a subcontractor to US AID, providing consulting services in the former Soviet Union and Poland. His work there included assisting local government officials and entrepreneurs in creating model privately owned management and maintenance companies. He also aided Yerevan University in Armenia with the development of training material for association managers, board members and government officials.

He is designated a Professional Community Association Manager® by the Community Associations Institute, a Certified Manager of Community Associations by the National Board of Certification for Community Association Managers and a Registered Cooperative Manager by the National Association of Housing Cooperatives.
